Interdisciplinary Pilot Awards


As part of the campus-wide Interdisciplinary Research Enabling Initiative, TDAI and the following partners are accepting proposals for Interdisciplinary Research Pilot Awards to support compelling, interdisciplinary, big data-enabled research pilots and creative expression with funds and in-kind resources:

  • Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center
  • Center for Cancer Engineering
  • Center for Clinical and Translational Science
  • Center for Urban and Regional Analysis
  • College of Medicine Department of Biomedical Informatics
  • John Glenn College of Public Affairs
  • Sustainability Institute

Proposals are due Monday, Feb. 21, by 5 p.m. ET.

TDAI is accepting proposals on any research topic for awards that may include:

  • Up to $50K for direct costs
  • Access to:
    • Compute resources via Ohio Supercomputer Center
    • Data commons storage and sharing
    • Space in Pomerene Hall
  • TDAI data services and/or consulting
  • TDAI Postdoctoral Fellows
  • Undergraduate and/or graduate students
  • Ideation session facilitation
  • Conference and/or event space and support


In addition, TDAI and its award co-sponsors welcome proposals related to these topics:


Environment, Sustainability and Climate


Awards may also include:

  • Expected average of $10,000 for direct costs
  • Access to BPCRC space, including GIS/remote sensing labs
  • Software development
  • Staff support for development of broader impacts and community-engaged aspects of the work

Responsible and Ethical Data Science

Awards may also include:

  • Assistance in accessing the Ohio Longitudinal Data Archive through the Ohio Education Research Center
  • Battelle Center for Science and Engineering student community group formation for research or rapid innovation course
  • Consulting services for researchers on engaging government partners (e.g., translational government scientist participation, navigating agreement processes, accessing data, etc.)
  • Access to TDAI Postdoctoral Fellow

Smart Mobility

Co-sponsor: Center for Urban and Regional Analysis

Awards may also include:

  • High-performance computing optimized for geospatial analysis and modeling and simulation
  • Data services and consulting including mobility, geospatial and urban data analytics; customized tool and app development; and design of complex data structures

Assistance with relationships and partnering with community organizations such as MORPC, COTA, and the City of Columbus
