Welcoming Our Two Newest Graduate Fellows!

Please join us in welcoming Luči Krnic and Andrew Engel, TDAI’s newest Graduate Fellows, to the team. The Graduate Fellows role involves creating and leading a working group aligned with their personal research interests and presenting their research annually to the TDAI community. Below is a snapshot of their research interests and backgrounds.

Luči Krnic

Luči is a Mathematics PhD candidate working on the theory of superposition in neural networks with professors Dustin Mixon and Matt Kahle. She studies how the representational geometry depends on properties of the underlying data-generating distribution using frame theory, topological combinatorics, and high-dimensional probability.

Luči completed an MSc in Mathematical Sciences at the University of Oxford in 2020, specializing in topological data analysis and network science. After completing the first year of her PhD, Luči joined a London-based start-up, Unlikely AI, as an early employee and a technical product manager. Her experience working in a product role across a neuro-symbolic pipeline continues to motivate her interest in mathematical foundations to tell us about how model design decisions affect the people who use them.

Andrew Engel

Andrew Engel Headshot

Andrew is a Physics PhD candidate studying applications of computer vision to astronomy, the low-surface-brightness universe, physics-informed learning, and uncertainty quantification.

Before beginning graduate school in 2024, Andrew was a staff scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory studying the dynamics of neural networks. He graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 2020.

We are excited to welcome Luči and Andrew to the TDAI community and look forward to seeing their research and working groups develop. Stay connected with TDAI for future updates and opportunities to hear about their work!
