TDAI core faculty and affiliates selected for interdisciplinary team science academy
Four TDAI core faculty have been selected for the inaugural cohort of OSU's Growing Research Opportunities (GRO) Academy, which teaches specialized skills for leading complex, interdisciplinary collaborations and pursuing external funding:
- Xiaolin Cheng, pharmacy
- Dennis D. Hirsch, law
- David Melamed, sociology
- Xia Ning, biomedical informatics and computer science and engineering
In addition, five TDAI affiliates were also selected for the opportunity:
- Alison Bennett, evolution, ecology, and organismal biology
- Eric Fosler-Lussier, computer science and engineering; TDAI leadership team
- Sebastian Kurtek, statistics
- Mark Moritz, anthropology
- Christopher Stewart, computer science and engineering
The university launched the GRO Academy in response to the national trend among grant-making agencies toward convergence and interdisciplinary team-based research in order to address complex challenges.
“It’s imperative for principal investigators to bridge the traditional gaps between disciplines to harness breakthrough research,” says Grace Wang, executive vice president for research, innovation and knowledge. “The skills they develop in the academy will help set them apart as they begin to lead diverse, complex research teams.”
