Liang awarded NSF RINGS grant for NextG UAV network
TDAI Core Faculty Yingbin Liang, Professor of Electrical Computing and Engineering and Deputy Director of the NSF-funded AI-EDGE Institute, jointly with Prof. Junshan Zhang (UC-Davis), Prof. Hai (Helen) Li (Duke) and Prof. Qinru Qiu (Syracuse), recently won a $1 million NSF award for "RINGS: A Deep Reinforcement Learning Enabled Large-scale UAV Network with Distributed Navigation, Mobility Control, and Resilience."
The project is part of the NSF Resilient & Intelligent NextG Systems (RINGS) program, which aims to accelerate research in emerging Next Generation (NextG) wireless networks and systems. By leveraging and advancing the recent breakthroughs in NextG wireless communications, deep machine learning, hardware-aware model generation, and robust and trustworthy artificial intelligence, Dr. Liang will lead the project to design a NextG resilient UAV navigation system, with high-performance of communication, computation, automation and adaptivity during their missions.
