TDAI’s Shared Services in 172 Pomerene Hall offers one-on-one consulting with technology partners from across campus to help researchers, students, and staff explore resources and solutions for data science and analytics projects. Looking for a special data set? Interested in data visualization tools or training? Want to explore storage and computing options? Shared Services is your one-stop shop for data science and analytics services, training, and resources at the university.

Drop-in consultation hours:

Ask the Research Commons with Nicole Hernandez
2-4 p.m. Mondays

Visit Nicole for assistance with:

  • Formulating research questions
  • Navigating the OSU Libraries website for scholarly resources
  • Structuring citations for bibliographies and works cited
  • Determining “next steps” for your research project
  • Referrals to subject experts and other campus services as needed

 

Technology Commercialization Consultations 
1-3 p.m. Tuesdays (through April 2019)

Visit technology commercialization staff for help with:

  • protecting and commercializing intellectual property 
  • confidentiality, material transfer and data use agreements
  • startup company creation
  • patents and copyrights
  • technology development funding opportunities


Amazon Web Services Consultations

1-3:30 p.m. every other Tuesday beginning April 2

Visit with an AWS solutions architect and technical account managers for assistance with: 

  • AWS design and architecture reviews
  • Use case reviews
  • Mapping use cases to AWS services
  • Calculating estimated cost of a use case in AWS
  • Proactive and secure ways to use AWS
  • Technical issues with AWS


Data Visualization Help with Lee-Arng Chang

10 a.m.-12 p.m. Wednesdays

Visit Lee-Arng for assistance with:

  • Finding free and publicly accessible data sets to visualize
  • Identifying appropriate data visualization methods, tools, and software for your project
  • Choosing appropriate visualization types based on your data
  • Receiving constructive feedback on visualizations you have created
  • Training for data visualization tools like Excel, Tableau, Illustrator and more

Learn about:

  • How to get started using OSC
  • How to use OSC’s web portal “OnDemand”
  • Software support
  • Troubleshooting your jobs


GIS & Mapping Help with Josh Sadvari

12-2 p.m. Wednesdays

Visit Josh for assistance with:

  • Finding, creating, and managing geospatial data sets
  • Identifying appropriate GIS methods, tools and software for your project
  • Designing and carrying out spatial analyses based on your research questions
  • Receiving constructive feedback on maps and other geographic visualizations
  • Training for a variety of GIS tools and web-based mapping platforms


Ask a Science Librarian with Danny Dotson

2-4 p.m. Thursdays

Visit Danny for assistance with:

  • Finding articles, books, streaming media and other information sources on a research topic
  • Finding instructional and “how to” materials
  • Improving information literacy skills (searching for, selecting, evaluating and using information sources)
  • Citing sources and answering questions about the basics of copyright and fair use
  • Deep searching using advanced search tools
