Dr. Smith has served as Managing Director of Ohio State’s Translational Data Analytics Institute since 2018, providing leadership to define strategic vision and to implement programmatic elements, including building external partnerships. Cathie also served as Executive Director of the university’s investment in infectious diseases research, in which she was instrumental in launching a university-level Infectious Diseases Institute. Prior to joining Ohio State, Cathie managed R&D programs at Battelle in the Health & Life Sciences Global Business Unit, including programs that were internal to the contract research organization, as well as more complex, multi-institutional partnerships between industry, universities and the Department of Energy’s National Laboratories across the U.S. She led product and services development teams for several new company offerings, including drug discovery science and non-clinical imaging. Cathie also has previous experience in research at a biotech start-up and in teaching at undergraduate universities in central Ohio. Her PhD and MS are in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, her MBA is from The Ohio State University, and her BA in Biology and General Science is from Hiram College. She is also certified by the Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional.
