
Margaret Kalcic
Two PhD students in the TDAI community have recently been awarded prestigious fellowships for their research, under the leadership of TDAI Core Faculty Margaret Kalcic .
Haley Kujawa received her Bachelor’s in Biological Systems Engineering with a minor in green engineering from Virginia Tech. She currently works alongside Dr. Kalcic in the Department of Food, Agriculture and Biological Engineering on water quality research in the Great Lakes region. She was awarded the Margaret A. Davidson Graduate Fellowship, NOAA for the 2020-2022 term. This is a prestigious and nationally competitive fellowship that funds two years of graduate studies to conduct research in collaboration with a National Estuary Research Reserve. Kujawa was awarded $112,000 to put towards her project of building a user-oriented management tool to assess hydrology and water quality and to facilitate climate change adaptation in Old Woman Creek, in Huron, OH.
Anna Apostel is a graduate student working within the Department of Food, Agriculture and Biological Engineering and received a Bachelor of science in Biology from Denison University. Her research is centered around watershed hydrology. Apostel was named a 2019 Sea Grant Knauss Marine Policy Fellow; a fellowship that aims to match highly qualified graduate students with “hosts” in the legislative and executive brand of government located in the Washington, D.C. area, for a one-year paid fellowship of $61,500.
