Researchers meet at "Research, Short and Sweet"

“Leveraging Big Data” was the theme of a lively “Research, Short and Sweet” event March 30–the first in a series of quarterly networking events for faculty working in Discovery Theme areas.

Huan Sun

TDA affiliate Huan Sun discusses her work in data mining and artificial intelligence to help answer users’ questions

Faculty from an array colleges and departments gathered at Ohio State’s STEAM Factory near downtown to discuss their use of data analytics in cancer research, medical diatetics, economics, and more. The event’s format, which allows each speaker one minute and one PowerPoint slide to discuss their work, spurred impromptu introductions and great conversations among participants–in addition to a friendly competition to see who could finish their spiel before a tiny gong sounded.

Registration is open for future dates and is limited to the first 40 registrants. To RSVP, email a PDF of your slide and your desired date to Amy Spellacy in the Office of Research’s Industry Liaison Office.

Upcoming topics and dates:

“Sustaining Energy & the Environment”: June 13, 5-7 p.m., Materials Innovation Lab, 1381 Kinnear Road
“Promoting Health & Wellness”: September 13, 5-7 p.m., STEAM Factory, 400 W. Rich St.
“Feeding the Global Population”: January 23, 2018, 5-7 p.m., STEAM Factory, 400 W. Rich St.
