Dr. Mathe’s research is in the area of computational biology, with a specific application of developing methods and approaches to analyze high-throughput datasets, including next-generation sequencing and metabolomics data. The goal of her work is to associate genomic and epigenomic features with metabolic phenotypes to guide personalized medicine approaches to cancer treatment. More specifically, her goal is to define molecular features that are specific to an individual’s cancer type, in the hope of being able to better diagnose and/or target the disease. This type of research involves solving problems of study design, integration of high-throughput datasets and clinical patient characteristics, and developing novel analysis methods.
