Ashwini Deo

Associate Professor, Linguistics, College of Arts and Sciences

Ashwini Deo’s main research interest is in systematic semantic change–particularly in the ways in which meanings of grammatical markers change over time. Her empirical focus is on the Indo-Aryan languages, which are spoken in much of South Asia, and which provide us with a diachronic linguistic record of over 3,000 years. Her work involves the development and use of searchable corpus resources for these languages as well as computational modeling of semantic change phenomena.
