The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences is hosting two seminars by Alessia Lodi, PhD, Research Associate and Lecturer, Department of Nutritional Sciences in the Dell Pediatric Research Institute, University of Texas at Austin.

About the presenter: Dr. Lodi has degrees in chemical engineering and food science and nutrition, and multidisciplinary research experience in metabolomics, data mining, cancer metabolism, and disease prevention. She earned a Laurea in Chemical Engineering from the University of Trieste, Italy, and a PhD from Ohio State. She was a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow in molecular oncology at the University of Birmingham, UK, and was a postdoctoral fellow at University of California – San Francisco.

Her research incorporates metabolomics and high-throughput metabolic screens to design novel approaches for disease chemo prevention and treatment. Her team developed methods to screen large libraries of compounds and identify combinations of agents leading to synergistic effects. The synergistic chemo preventive potential of these combinations were validated in vitro and in vivo. Dr. Lodi is now consolidating microbiome data with metabolic profiles in studies of human disease, including obesity.

Her experience in big data and interest in food health effects may impact the Discovery Themes and Food Science and Technology.
